Step One: Exfoliate

The key to smooth, camera-ready skin is gentle exfoliation. Exfoliating your skin the morning or night before you’re having your picture taken will help to remove any rough patches of skin that could lead to uneven makeup application. It will also help stimulate circulation, so you’ll have some healthy color in your skin as well.

Just be sure that you’re using an exfoliator that isn’t too harsh: rough textured particles can aggravate the skin, so look for an oatmeal-based exfoliator or one with smooth round particles. Also, don’t exfoliate the skin if you’re experiencing a bad acne breakout or an allergic reaction because exfoliation can make these conditions worse.

Step Two: Wear Matte Makeup

When choosing the makeup you’ll be wearing for photos, look for matte rather than shiny or overly shimmery formulas. The lights from camera flashes can amplify any shine on the skin and can make your face look oily or greasy.

To combat this use matte makeup in powder formulas which generally stay shine-free longer than liquids or creams. You can also use rice paper oil-absorbing sheets to mop up any excess oil on your skin. Simply blot the skin with these sheets to remove any shine.
